Our Grade 8 Music Discoveries
Grade 8 students play band instruments for six of the twelve weeks. A review of clefs, note names, durations, and ledger lines begin our learning time together. Students review the concert pitch scale, tuning, and small group ensemble techniques while playing band instruments. Learners complete a portion of the Standard of Excellence text where they begin in grade 9 band class. During the further six weeks students learn the circle of fifths and key signatures, scales, intervals (visual and audio), composition, The Romantic Period and three of its composers, Tchaikovsky and the Schumanns, Canadian Music and the Recording Industry, the second part to the grade seven listening unit, a comprehensive study to the history of rock and roll. If time permits we also enjoy bucket drumming and boomwacker melody making.
